Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project Phase BU-1B Burlington Levee Project to Begin Mid-June

Burlington, N.D. – The Souris River Joint Board(SRJB) recently awarded the bid for the Phase BU-1B City of Burlington Levee Phase 1 Project as a part of the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project (MREFPP). The low bid of $8,994,588.62 was received from Wagner Construction.

“In spite of all that is going on with COVID-19 pandemic, the Souris River Joint Board remains committed to the continued design, construction and completion of the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project and this is one more step in the right direction” said Dave Ashley, Chairman of the Souris River Joint Board.

Phase BU-1B Phase 1 Levee Project addresses the area south of Colton Avenue (County Road 10), and consists of the construction of an earthen levee south from Colton Avenue which will run along the south side of the Johnson Addition dead loop and then along the south side of the Willows Subdivision, drainage improvements, Cherry Street and Grace Street reconstruction, utility relocations, and the new Kittelson Pump Station.

Jeanine Kabanuk, City of Burlington Mayor said “Following the completion of the Colton Avenue bridge last year, we are thrilled that the Souris River Joint Board continues to make Burlington a priority in their planning to reduce the risk of future flooding in the basin with the implementation of this second phase of construction in our community.”

Project construction will be in full force by mid-July but the contractor is expected to mobilize equipment and begin vegetative clearing and prep work at the project site in mid-June.

This phase of the project is expected to be completed in September 2021.
